‘My people still suffer in this country and if I can make a contribution to that then I think that it behooves me to do that’.

Mr. Stan Grant, Guardian Australia indigenous affairs editor, quoted in an article in The Australian which reported the proceedings of a current affairs program which had aired the previous night. Mr Grant was a panelist on the program.

Even if correctly quoted, it seems very unlikely that Mr Grant would want to contribute to the suffering of his people. ‘If I can make a contribution to the reduction of that suffering…’ may have better expressed his position.
